1874

The company was established in 1874 by engineer Samuel Henry Johnson, who initially focused on producing pure glucose for breweries and distilleries. It quickly gained recognition for its innovative contributions to the chemical engineering sector. Later, by perfecting filter press technology in collaboration with a French engineer, Johnson laid the foundation for a company that would expand its offerings to include a wide range of machinery for various industries, such as mining, sewage treatment, and sugar production. The expertise and advancements in filtering plant technology became hallmarks of the brand, setting the stage for its growth and eventual integration as a subsidiary of Johnson-Progress Limited in Stoke-on-Trent.
